Healthy Pumpkin Spice Latte

Autumn is here! And so is the pumpkin season. Pumpkins are quite diverse – not only in their varieties but also in their uses. With them, you can create the most diverse recipes.

One of them is the Pumpkin Spice Latte – a drink that can’t be missed in autumn. The American cult drink consists, among other things, of pumpkin puree and autumnal spices.

However, it can be quite expensive in some cafés and often quite sweet and high in calories. The coffee drink can also be prepared well at home. So it is much cheaper and also lower in calories. In addition, the Pumpkin Spice Latte – at least in my version – is also vegan!

How do I make the pumpkin puree for the Pumpkin Spice Latte?

Pumpkin puree is sometimes difficult or impossible to find in the supermarket – at least that’s my experience. That’s why I made it myself. What’s more, it’s pretty simple.

I have used a Hokkaido pumpkin for this. This you first clean well and then cut it into pieces. You can leave the skin on!

I did not use the entire pumpkin, because I did not need so much puree for the recipe. It is already enough if you use a quarter to half pumpkin.

Next, remove the seeds from the pumpkin and cut it into large pieces. Then put it in a saucepan and cover it with water.

Now let it simmer for about 30 minutes until it is quite soft. After removing the saucepan from the heat and draining the water with a sieve, either put the pumpkin pieces in a blender or process them with a hand blender to a puree.

You can store the pumpkin puree in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week!

How To Prepare the Pumpkin Spice Latte

First, mix all the spices together in a small bowl.

Then, add one to two tablespoons of the pumpkin puree to another bowl and mix it with the spice mixture and sweetener of choice.

After you have prepared an espresso, you can mix the pumpkin spice mixture you just made with it.

Tip: By passing the pumpkin spice mixture through a sieve beforehand with the help of a teaspoon, you can better avoid chunks.

Finally, all you have to do is froth the milk, pour it into a latte macchiatto glass or cup, and add the espresso. Done!
