Vegan Sugarfree Brownies

Well, who is in the mood for juicy and chocolaty brownies? Definitely me! I’m a total chocolate junkie and these brownies clearly satisfy my chocolate hunger. They are also vegan and do not contain any conventional sugar. A dream come true!

In fact, this was the first time I tried the vegan and sugar-free variety and look at them: they’ve become really good. Who would have thought it! Admittedly they are not very diet-friendly due to their high calorie content, but they are still healthy because they contain:

  • no conventional, white sugar
  • no dairy products
  • no wheat flour

Beans, sweet potatoes, zucchini or other are often used in healthy brownies. I’m honest, I still can’t quite get used to the idea, but I’ve never tested it either. Have any of you ever tested brownies with beans & co. Maybe I will dare to do it again!

But for this time, I only used very “basic” ingredients. I would say that these ingredients are easily available at home. Of course you can also change ingredients or leave them out. For example, I used blueberries because I find it especially juicy and delicious with them. But you can also just leave them out. In addition, the preparation is really quite simple!

How Long Do the Brownies Last?

Personally, I find that the second day after spending the night in the fridge, the brownies taste even juicier and more chocolaty! The brownies should be kept in the refrigerator in an airtight container. There they last up to one week.

How Do I Prepare the Vegan Brownies?

First preheat the oven to ~350°F (180°C).

Now mix all dry ingredients (ground almonds, baking cocoa, baking powder and spelt flour) in a bowl.

Mix the dates in a mixer to a date paste creamy, if necessary add some more water. Here I recommend using soft dates, because they are much easier to process. Heat the coconut oil and the vegan margarine briefly so that it becomes liquid.

Add the date paste and the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients. Add the sweetness (e.g. maple syrup) and the applesauce. Mash the banana on a plate with a fork and add it.

Mix everything with a mixer to a creamy dough. Now fold in the blueberries and the chocolate drops.

Fill the dough into a baking tin lined with baking paper and smooth it down. Bake in the oven for about 35 minutes.

Then take the brownies out of the oven and let them cool down. Done!
