Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet potato fries from the oven are easy to make from home. Let me tell you how! To be honest, who doesn’t love fries? I personally have never met anyone who doesn’t like fries. Crispy fried fries. Hot & greasy, please!

But unfortunately not very healthy either. That’s why I regularly serve potatoes or sweet potatoes from the oven, because they can be just as delicious. Today there is the sweet potato variant.

What is the difference between a potato and a sweet potato?

Apart from their name, the two really don’t have that much in common. The potato, which probably everyone living in Germany knows only too well, is also cultivated here. The sweet potato, on the other hand, usually comes from Israel or South America.

Sweet potatoes can score points with their micronutrients. It contains more fiber as well as vitamins A and E than the native potato. It has a much higher quantity of calcium as well as vitamin C and beta-carotene.

But our domestic potato scores with more iron and magnesium. Therefore the two carry nearly the same name, bring however completely different nutrients with itself. No matter whether sweet potato or domestic potato: Both are healthy!

But now back to my beloved oven chips. Not only do they go well as a side dish with salad or burgers, but they are also very healthy:

  • quickly prepared with little work
  • spicylicious
  • crispy
  • quite healthy

How do I prepare the sweet potato fries?

First preheat the oven to ~ 390°F (200°C).

Cut the sweet potato into long sticks and keep the skin on. Now place the sweet potato sticks in a bowl of water for 5 minutes.

Dry the chips well with a kitchen towel. Now put them into a freezer bag. Heat 1 tablespoon of coconut oil briefly in the microwave so that it becomes liquid.

Put the liquid coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of starch in the freezer bag. Add the desired spices as well.

Close the freezer bag and shake well.

Place the French fries on a baking tray covered with baking paper. Spread them out as much as possible so that they all turn evenly golden brown.

Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes until golden brown. After half the time, turn the French fries well.

Instructions
