Pizza Margherita With Spelt Flour 1

Pizza Margherita With Spelt Flour

Homemade Pizza Margherita – as delicious as from the Italian, only in a slightly healthier version! This recipe is probably one of my favorite, because I love pizza, especially pizza Margherita.

However, the pizzas from the delivery service or in restaurants are often very greasy – sometimes they are already dripping with fat. And frozen pizzas are absolutely not an option for me either. Not only because they are highly industrially processed and represent the opposite of healthy, but also because they simply don’t taste good to me at all.

Therefore, it is once again: tackle yourself! Because homemade still tastes best!

What Ingredients Do I Need for the Pizza Margherita?

The ingredient list is quite manageable and actually consists almost only of basic foods.

For my pizza I used spelt flour. With it the pizza succeeds just as well as with the usual wheat flour, tastes to me personally also just as well and has clearly more health advantages than wheat flour.

Water, salt and yeast will probably have most at home. Also the tomato sauce is kept very simple: strained tomatoes plus spices equal super easy! Add some grated cheese and you have all the ingredients for the perfect pizza Margherita together.

Of course, you can also replace the grated cheese with vegan cheese. I have also tried this variant more often. However, I must admit that the variant with the grated cow cheese tastes much better to me.

Probably I just have not yet found the perfect vegan cheese. If you have any tips for me, feel free to share them with me!

The guide to the perfect pizza Margherita:

  1. Put the spelt flour in a bowl. Add the salt.
  2. In a separate small bowl, crumble the yeast and add the lukewarm water. Stir together briefly.
  3. Now add the yeast-water mixture to the flour and knead.
  4. Cover the bowl and let rise at room temperature for about 1 hour.
  5. Then preheat the oven to ~ 430 °F (220 °C).
  6. Knead the dough well with clean hands and then roll it out.
  7. For the tomato sauce, mix strained tomatoes with salt, a little pepper and oregano and pour on the rolled out pizza dough.
  8. Cover with cheese and put in the oven!
  9. Bake for about 7-8 minutes. See if the cheese has melted. This can always vary slightly from oven to oven.

The Pizza Margherita is

  • very simple
  • very tasty
  • the perfect alternative to frozen pizza
